When you see “Events Pass – Muni, Pending Tag,” then your Clipper BayPass is ready for you to pick up. To do this, tap your Clipper card on a card reader to add your Clipper BayPass. You must do this within 180 days of your administrator enrolling your Clipper card number.

*Tip: If possible, we recommend tapping your card at a physical transit faregate (e.g., BART station or MUNI underground station) or at a standing Clipper card reader located on a station platform (e.g., ferry terminal, Caltrain station, MUNI light rail aboveground station, AC Transit Tempo platform, SMART train platform, etc.).

Yes. When riding transit service with Clipper BayPass, you must tap your Clipper card on a card reader when entering a station or boarding a vehicle. Some transit operators also require you to tap your card at the end of your journey (e.g., BART, SF Bay ferries, Caltrain, Golden Gate Transit bus trips, etc.). Failure to tap your card is a failure to pay and may result in a fine.

Once you have BayPass active on your Clipper card, all trips will utilize the Clipper BayPass as the primary pass. Cash value and other pass products can coexist with the Clipper BayPass and will not be affected. The balance will remain on the card to use if the BayPass Pilot ends, or you leave your institution. Passes other than the BayPass will not be used while BayPass is on your card.

Tip: If you have Autoload set up, we recommend you cancel or modify your auto-reload 3-5 days in advance of your next autoload to ensure that you don’t accidentally accrue a large balance or add a pass that will not be used. It’s fine to have a small balance on your Clipper card as a safety. If you need assistance with your Autoload, please call Clipper Customer Service (877.878.8883).

Please notify the site administrator at your workplace or organization. They will work with Clipper BayPass staff to deactivate your lost card and provide you with a replacement card.

A rider without a valid Clipper BayPass on their card (regardless of participant status) will be required to pay a regular fare on a Clipper card (physical or mobile) or pay their fare in cash on operators that accept cash payments.

Please make sure you center your card over the Clipper reader for one or two seconds for the payment to process. If you’re using a mobile Clipper card, the location of the near-field communication/NFC antenna on each phone is different, so we recommend repositioning your phone and trying again. If your plastic or mobile card cannot be read, please try another reader, if possible.
